RAUL AREVELO / CHEF & ARTIST

A glowing antique fan and a wall of collected artwork inside The Shack

A life in sushi.
A love for home.

Raul Arevelo’s path in sushi began at Kyoto in Austin. A summer apprenticeship in Hong Kong followed, then time behind the counter on Maui’s Front Street and at Miyagi’s on Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

A chef, artist and tattooer, Raul brings that experience home to the Rio Grande Valley. His curiosity shows up everywhere — in the food, in the art on the walls, and in the unexpected things that make this little place feel like itself.

At The Shack, near Port Isabel’s lighthouse, Raul is joined by local sushi chef Luis Gutierrez. Together, they’re bringing fresh energy to a familiar coastal spot, with a menu that follows what’s freshest each week.

COLLECTED ALONG THE WAY

A room with
a few stories.

Antique lamps. Stained glass. Art with a past. The Shack is a little eclectic, a little unexpected, and entirely its own.

It’s the kind of place for a good meal and an unhurried conversation. A familiar face at the counter. Another story over sake.
